04 – The Jacobite Revolt

James Francis Edward, Prince of Wales (10 June 1688 – 1 January 1766), nicknamed the Old Pretender, was the son of the deposed James II of England and Ireland, VII of Scotland. As such, he claimed the English, Scottish and Irish thrones (as James III of England and Ireland and James VIII of Scotland) from the death of his father in 1701.

There were two different rebellions against the Hannover for the restoration of the catholic kings on the throne of England and Scotland: the first in 1715, the second in 1745.

The last and final rebellion was led by Charles Edward Stuart (Bonnie Prince Charlie or The Young Pretender) and ended in 1746 when he was finally defeated at the battle of Culloden by the Duke of Cumberland.
